Happenings and the like

How does it feel to give away $4 billion dollars? Well, this man knows. I imagine he's probably feeling pretty good about himself (as he should be).

Since news of Microsoft's upgraded Live search engine has already leaked, I guess I'm now allowed to acknowledge its existence. After sitting through a few meetings this past summer about the upcoming release of Live, it certainly does seem to be a significant upgrade. Google beware?

There's a new Information Retrieval textbook scheduled for release next year. I was fortunate enough to be asked to review a chapter. This will certainly be a test of my time management ability.

In a partnership with the Illini Union Bookstore at UIUC, Illini Book Exchange now has an official meeting spot for students to exchange textbooks. Many thanks to Josh Sulkin for managing the negotiations.

Transactions completed via IBX are approaching $1 million dollars. It almost brings a tear to me eye. IBX was the first successful project I participated in. I imagine most people would prefer to spend their scarce free time partying it up or engaged in various other social activities. Me? I like staying up until 5am writing PHP with Navreet. Duh.

I fondly remember the IBX emails every quarter. Sometimes I would get them twice. Or more. Ah, the memories.
